If you ate a 100% plant-based (vegan) diet, what molecule would you never eat?

If you were to eat a completely whole food plant-based diet (WFPBD), there is one molecule you would never eat, and that would be cholesterol.  Plants do no produce cholesterol, instead they produce phytosterols.  Cholesterol comes from animal products.

What is Cholesterol?

Cholesterol is present in all the cells of the body.  It is a fatty like substance.

Do We Need to Eat Cholesterol?

Molecule you would never eat is cholesterol on plant based
Molecule you would never eat is cholesterol on 100% plant-based diet

The body is capable of producing all the cholesterol it needs.  It doesn’t need to get it from outside sources.

Cholesterol is found mainly in animal products.  So as someone who eats 100% plant-based foods you never consume would any cholesterol.  But, this isn’t always true for someone who is Vegan.

That’s because if you are Vegan and you are avoiding animal products, you will consume a lot less cholesterol that is found in animal products, but there is one type of cholesterol you may still end up eating.

And that is the cholesterol from trans fats.  Trans fats raise cholesterol levels and are found in fried foods, fast foods, and processed dessert foods such as cookies, cakes, sweets and ice cream.

Eating a Whole Plant Based Diet is Best

Eating a WFPBD is best (Whole Food Plant Based Diet) for our overall health.  This means not just cutting out animal products as in veganism, but all eating 100% plant-based foods in their whole and natural forms.

Final Thoughts

We have learned that if you ate a 100% plant-based (vegan) diet, the molecule you would you never eat would be cholesterol.
