There are not many fruits that begin with the letter Z. Many are uncommon and unknown fruits.

There are even fewer vegetables that start with Z since technically there are none. Although many people consider zucchini to be a vegetable, it’s technically a fruit. The same is true for Zebra Eggplant, since all eggplants are technically fruits as well, and not vegetables.

So technically, no vegetables start with Z, so we will cover the few fruits that start with Z next. We’ll look at each one in detail.

Fruits that Start with Z

There are not many fruits that begin with the letter Z, especially common ones.  These fruits are relatively uncommon and may not be found in every grocery store, but can be found at specialty markets or online.

Zante Currant

Zapote fruit is a good source of dietary fiber and a variety of vitamins and minerals such as vitamin C, potassium, and folate. Additionally, it contains antioxidants which can help protect the body against damage from free radicals.

Ziziphus Jujuba

Ziziphus jujuba is also known as Chinese date, jujube, red date or Indian date. It is a small deciduous tree or shrub that produces small, round, red fruit with a single pit. The fruit is sweet and crisp when ripe, and can be eaten fresh or dried. They can also be used in cooking and baking, adding a unique flavor to dishes.  The tree is also used for medicinal purposes and is believed to have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anti-cancer properties.

Ziziphus Mauritiana

Ziziphus Mauritiana is also known as Indian jujube or Chinese apple. It is a small deciduous tree or shrub that produces small, round, red fruit with a single pit. The fruit is sweet and crisp when ripe, and can be eaten fresh or dried. The tree is also used for medicinal purposes and is believed to have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anti-cancer properties.

Zhe Fruit

Zebra Eggplant

Zig-Zag Vine Fruit

Uvaria leichhardtii is a species of plant in the Annonaceae family, also known as Leichhardt’s banana, or Zig-Zag vine. It is native to the rainforests of Australia’s eastern coast. The plant is a climbing vine that can grow up to 20 meters in length, and it produces large, glossy leaves and clusters of white or yellow flowers.

The fruit of Uvaria leichhardtii is a small, elongated, and cylindrical-shaped berry, typically measuring around 5-10cm in length. The fruit is initially green in color but ripens to yellow or orange. The Zig Zag Vine fruit is not widely cultivated, and it is not well known outside of its native range. There are technically no vegetables that start with the letter Z.  Many people believe that Zucchini and Zebra Eggplant are vegetables, however, they are technically fruits.  (All eggplants are actually fruits)
